It is easy to overlook updates corralled under the Notifications tab on the LinkedIn menu, but such announcements could be time-sensitive and useful. Here’s what you can find by clicking the Notifications tab:

- Updates from your network, such as new connections, new followers, birthdays, invitations to connect, and work anniversaries
- Job postings, job search alerts, and hiring/recruiter activity presumably relevant to you
- Notifications about new messages and mentions in conversations
- Notifications when someone views your profile (check these notifications often since free account users don’t get to see who visited their profile through other means)
- Alerts about recent activity with your posts and shares
- Notifications about events, news, articles, and offers

You can customize your notification settings to choose which types of notifications to receive and how you want them delivered (such as through the LinkedIn app, email, or push notifications).

Notifications can come in handy if you choose to share job change or loss, education changes, and work anniversaries with your network, since making such announcement may generate congratulatory or sympathetic notifications and potentially job leads.

To manage notification updates, click the Notifications icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage. Under Manage your Notifications on the left sidebar, click View Settings. Switch the toggle to On next to a notification you want to receive.
To minimize being overwhelmed by nuisance notifications, be judicious in your selections. For example, I never opt for push notifications, lest I get unnecessary app notices at awkward times.
