As 2021 comes to an end, employers are already looking toward the new year and a fresh calendar of projections, goals and challenges. Yet, a business plan is only as good as the workforce putting it into action. Toward that end, the staffing professionals at Alliance Talent Solutions have put together a list of the five hottest trends in hiring as we enter 2022.

1. Staffing Shortage — Unemployment continues its year-long decline toward 4%. However, you don’t need a U.S. Department of Labor report to know that there is a short supply of applicants for positions in most industries — and a fierce bidding war for qualified workers. If you’re going to pay top dollar, you want top talent. A good staffing firm can help by laser-focusing the search on quality rather than quantity of candidates.

2. On-the-job Training — The staffing shortage isn’t just happening with upper-level positions. Employers are also finding it tough to fill entry-level jobs. As a result, forward-thinking companies are recruiting fresh applicants with no experience and giving them company-specific training on the job. Many of those employers are using professional staffing firms to set up such training programs.

3. Personal Touch — Leading-edge companies are automating in just about every area — but recruitment should not be one of them. In-demand candidates have their choice of jobs, and more and more, they want a personalized touch during the recruiting process. Employers can partner with experienced recruiting agencies to court talent and give them the attention they want.

4. The Churn — With so many companies wooing the best workers, there’s plenty of incentive for those employees to come and go with little or no notice. Companies must continue to be nimble in finding good help. An outside recruiting agency — with its experience, connections and talent pipeline — should be at the top of the contact list.

5. Uncertainty Persists — Even with the economy emerging from the storm of the past two years, a persistent cloud of uncertainty continues to linger. Companies that want to prepare for possible peaks and valleys might consider temporary staffing.

We’re all hopeful that 2022 will be a year filled with prosperity, but first you need to be fully staffed with the best available talent. With so many employers looking for good help, it’s tough for companies to find qualified applicants and difficult for would-be star employees to find great work. A reputable, experienced recruiting firm can bridge that gap and provide customized services to attract, retain and train new employees.
