Find People Nearby Using the LinkedIn App

by Kathy Bernard

Attending a conference or large business event sometime soon? Then you can benefit from a new feature on the LinkedIn phone app called “Find nearby.” It can help you find others in the vicinity who are also on LinkedIn so that you can meet.
To activate it, add the free LinkedIn app to your phone either through the App Store or the Google Play Store. Log on to your LinkedIn app and then click the “My Network” icon at the bottom of the screen.

At the top of “My Network” screen, turn the “Find nearby” feature on. Within seconds, the names, job titles and photos of all the people around you who have also turned on “Find nearby” will appear on the app.

How can this feature benefit you? It can help you meet up with friends attending the same conference or give you a way to meet new people who activated the feature for networking purposes.

Note that you must turn on the “Find nearby” feature each time you use it (it will switch off when not in use) and that the other people around you must also turn it on or they won’t be discoverable by your phone. LinkedIn does not track or retain your personal location information, so give it a whirl to meet up with prospects and friends at your next big event.
