Share Your Video Story on LinkedIn

by Kathy Bernard

A great new feature on LinkedIn is the ability to add a 20-second profile video where you currently have your static headshot. Use this video story to convey your brand advantage or personality—it makes for a fun and unique way to build your business.

To get started, script out and practice your message, but try to speak as naturally as possible when you record. Plan on your message being no more than 60 words so that it won’t sound rushed. Introduce yourself and what you want profile visitors to know about you and your business.

Optimize your appearance, lighting and background. Then log into the LinkedIn mobile app; click the plus sign near your profile headshot; and select “Add profile video.”

Tap the camera icon to record. Add stickers if you would like and select whom you want to see your video—everyone or just your connections. Preview your recording (and re-record as needed) before adding it to your profile.

Once saved, your profile photo will have a colorful border. When someone visits your profile (whether on their PC or mobile), they will see a short, muted preview of your recording to entice them to click, watch…and hopefully contact you about your services!
