Do Your Comments Count on LinkedIn?

by Kathy Bernard

People often ask me if it makes a difference for their business or career whether they comment on posts on the LinkedIn home page newsfeed. I believe it does because you can be more seen on the platform reminding prospects and employers of your presence and availability. Now, you can see for yourself whether it works because LinkedIn recently added a comments impressions counter.

To view comment impressions, visit your profile, scroll to your Activity section, then click “Comments.” If your comments aren’t garnering many impressions, comment in a way that encourages interactivity with the original poster and other commenters. Also, comment more frequently by visiting your home page daily to comment on your prospect, customer and employer posts. When you do, LinkedIn recognizes the type of posts, companies, and people you interact with and places such posts near the top of your newsfeed to make it easier for you to comment in the future.

Wait to like someone’s post until after you comment on it. LinkedIn shares posts more broadly when it receives multiple comments soon after it has been posted and the system prioritizes comments to likes. LinkedIn only shares posts with about 10% of your network unless you pay to sponsor posts, so commenting on others’ posts helps extend their messages and motivates them to comment on yours.

While in your profile’s Activity section, also view impressions for your posts, videos, articles, and more. Learn what creates greater interest so you can tailor your future newsfeed entries.
