Follow Your Target Companies On LinkedIn To Build Lasting Relationships

by Kathy Bernard

My latest LinkedIn advice to business clients is so easy and worthwhile to implement: Follow the pages of your prospects and clients. By doing so, their posts will start appearing on your home page newsfeed so that you can like, comment and share their posts to further their reach.

But how can you find your prospect companies if you don’t know who they are? Thankfully that’s easy, too. Type a prospect type into the LinkedIn Search box (e.g., “Construction”) and then click Enter. Next, click the bubble underneath the Search box that reads “Companies.” Next, click “All filters” and then “Add a location.” Type “Greater St. Louis.” Choose multiple company size boxes to narrow your search to the ones that work best for your organization and then click “Show results.”

Simply scroll down the list that pops up, clicking “Follow” next to each company in which you are interested. If you do business beyond the Greater St. Louis area, choose a different location and follow the same steps.

Once you have opted to follow specific companies, their news will start appearing on your home page newsfeed, so check that page often and write thoughtful comments in response to their posts. Companies love when you interact with their news, and many will follow your company page back in response. Plus, interacting with their company news makes them feel like you are already part of their inner circle and are much more likely to do business with your company in response.
